Thank Our Troops

The New York State Snowmobile Association invites snowmobile clubs and all of their members and friends to join with us in the program we are initiating to show our appreciation to the brave men and women of our Armed Forces. We all know someone who has been deployed overseas; from our clubs, our neighborhoods and our own families. These young people are putting themselves in harms way to defend us and our way of life. Many of them have paid the ultimate price in doing so. Please, unite with us to show our own how much we admire and appreciate them.

We are establishing a fund to support three UNITED SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS ( USO ) programs: OPERATION CARE PACKAGE, UNITED THROUGH READING and OPERATION PHONE HOME. To start this fund we are asking you and your fellow members to contribute your dollars to the NYSSA THANK OUR TROOPS FUND. 100% of your contributions will go to these USO programs.

OPERATION CARE PACKAGE: Delivers packages containing items specifically requested by our military, such as international calling cards, disposable cameras, toiletries and sunscreen. These $25 packages are delivered directly to troops involved in the war on terrorism.

UNITED THROUGH READING: Troops can go to a USO location and be videotaped reading a children’s book. The DVD and the book are then sent to a designated child. The child can be videotaped watching the DVD and this will be returned to the deployed individual who recorded the original DVD. A new book and DVD can also be sent along as well, and the originator does get to view the reactions of the child watching the reading of the story.

OPERATION PHONE HOME: This campaign is designed with the goal of providing prepaid calling cards to Armed Forces personnel serving overseas. 100% of the money allocated to this fund will go toward the purchase and distribution of the calling cards.

It is our intention to use snowmobilers contributions as a starting point and seek corporate partners to make this fund a significant gesture of our admiration for the service men and women of the USA. Our donations will be small in comparison with the sacrifices they are making, but they will mean so much to those who are in danger and separated from their families. Let's show them that they are always in our thoughts!

Will your club and its members help make this program a success? Many clubs out of necessity have found creative ways to raise funds; how about something for this effort? Perhaps you can include it in an event you have already planned or an event that is not your club's, but scheduled in your area. At the very least dig into your pocket, you know exactly where your money will be going. This program will be featured at the Forum and you will be receiving more information as we near that event.
